Symposium: ‘Expressing humanist values in changing political climates’ (25th October 2024)

Throughout Europe we are currently facing increasing polarisation and false information not only in political debate but in everyday life. As a result civil trust is in decline and this trend has a profound impact upon the practice, the mode of dialogue and how we express humanist values in our societies.

How can we strengthen and enhance dialogue and democratic skills across Europe? What is at stake?

Through lectures and workshops we will investigate and analyse and put into practice an array of the methodological ideas that support an enhanced dialogue. All sessions will provide examples and tools for our work amongst humanist celebrants, educators and chaplains

Guest speakers:
Karin Heremans
Hans Schepers
Jodie Ras
Menno Hurenkamp

The symposium will take place in Antwerp Belgium on Friday the 25th 2024. As always there will be time to meet and exchange with other European humanist professionals.

Those who stay until Saturday 26th will have the option to join a visit to the wonderful museum Plantin Moretus. ‘Christophe Plantin (Dutch: Christoffel Plantijn, 1520 – 1 July 1589) was a French Renaissance humanist and book printer and publisher who resided and worked in Antwerp. He established in Antwerp one of the most prominent publishing houses of his time, the Plantin Press. It played a significant role in making Antwerp a leading centre of book publishing in Europe.’
